What is Wuzuquan?
Wuzuquan (Five Ancestors Fist) is a traditional Southern Shaolin martial art originating from Fujian Province in China. It combines principles from five influential martial traditions into one complete system, emphasising effective self-defence, internal power, discipline, health, and personal development.
What does Wuzuquan mean?
The name “Wuzuquan” translates as “Five Ancestors Fist”. The art combines the teachings and characteristics of five important martial traditions to create a balanced and highly effective fighting system.
What is Wujiquan?
Wujiquan is a complementary internal art taught alongside Wuzuquan. It focuses on relaxation, breathing, posture, balance, body mechanics and cultivating internal energy. It is suitable for practitioners of all ages and abilities and promotes both physical and mental wellbeing.
Who can learn Wuzuquan?
Our classes welcome adults of all ages and abilities. Whether you are completely new to martial arts or have previous experience, our structured syllabus allows students to progress at their own pace.
Do I need to be fit before joining?
No. Many students begin with little or no martial arts experience. Fitness, flexibility and strength naturally improve through regular training.
What should I wear for my first lesson?
Comfortable sports clothing such as a T-shirt and tracksuit bottoms or shorts is ideal for your first few lessons. Once you decide to continue training, you’ll be advised about obtaining the club uniform.
Is Wuzuquan suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. Beginners are introduced to the fundamentals before progressing to more advanced techniques. Every student develops through the same structured grading system.
Is Wuzuquan suitable for older adults?
Yes. Many aspects of training can be adapted to suit individual ability. The emphasis on posture, breathing, coordination and body mechanics makes Wuzuquan suitable for lifelong practice. We also provide Wujiquan & Qigong tuition as options.

How long does it take to progress?
Progress depends on regular attendance, effort and understanding. Every student develops at their own pace through our structured syllabus and grading system.
Do you have a grading system?
Yes. Students progress through clearly defined grades that assess technical ability, knowledge, application, etiquette and personal development.
Who teaches the classes?
Classes are taught by qualified instructors with many years of experience studying traditional Nan Shaolin Wuzuquan. Our instructors continue their own development through regular senior training and international seminars.
What lineage do you teach?
Our school follows the teachings and lineage of Master Han Jin Yuan disciple of Grandmaster Chee Kim Thong (Xu Jin Dong), preserving the traditional Nan Shaolin Wuzuquan system that he dedicated his life to teaching.
Are your instructors insured and qualified?
Yes. Our instructors are appropriately qualified within our organisation and operate under the club’s policies, safeguarding procedures and code of conduct.
Is Wuzuquan only about fighting?
No. While Wuzuquan is a highly effective martial art, it also develops confidence, discipline, respect, fitness, coordination, perseverance and self-control.
Is Wuzuquan good for fitness?
Yes. Training improves cardiovascular fitness, strength, mobility, balance, flexibility and coordination while also developing mental focus.
What makes your school different?
Our school is dedicated to preserving authentic Nan Shaolin Wuzuquan as passed down through Master Han Jin Yuan. Alongside regular classes, we organise seminars, continue researching and documenting the art, maintain a structured syllabus, and actively promote Wuzuquan both within the UK and internationally.
